Singaporeans looking for more information about the Government Housing policies will be pleased to hear that the National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan released his commentaries on 23 March.
(National Development Minister, Mah Bow Tan.)
The book, entitled Reflections on Housing a Nation, combines eight commentaries that were first published through September to December last year in the Today newspaper. These detail Mr Mah’s thoughts on Singapore property issues such as public housing, and an insight into the rationale, principles and considerations behind important public housing issues.
One of the commentaries addresses the Government’s response to rising aspirations of Singaporeans, to which Mr Mah said, speaking to The Straits Times: “People ask me, ‘Why doesn’t HDB stick to providing basic housing?’ The answer is simple: Our people have changed and they no longer want only basic housing”.
A total of 8,000 copies of the 88-page book, which also includes plenty of pictures, have been distributed to such places as HDB branch offices, public libraries and school. It has been published in Chinese and English and is free to anyone.
In a statement made on the day of the book’s release, Mr Mah said: “I hope to reach out to more Singaporeans, to tell them about our ongoing housing story, and to enhance their understanding of the policy considerations behind this success story”.
