Efforts to restore cooling to the stricken Fukushima nuclear reactors continues. On the evening of March 11, prime minister Naoto Kan declared a nuclear emergency - although government sources insisted no leak of radiation had yet taken place. An evacuation of the area is ordered - initially for 3km around the Fukushima I plant.
