SINGAPORE: Ms Lee Li Lian of the Workers’ Party has won the Punggol East by-election.
Returning Officer Yam Ah Mee announced the results at about 11pm on Saturday.
Ms Lee won 16,038 or 54.52 per cent of the valid votes, while Dr Koh Poh Koon of the People’s Action Party received 12,856 or 43.71 per cent of the votes.
Reform Party’s Kenneth Jeyaretnam took 353 or 1.20 per cent of the votes and Singapore Democratic Alliance’s Desmond Lim had 168 or 0.57 of the votes.
Total number of votes cast was 29,832, with 417 rejected votes.
This was 94.26 per cent of the 31,649 registered electors in the Single Member Constituency.
