The intense rain storm has caused serious flooding in many parts of Indonesia, causing at least 4 deaths.
Bracing the flood brought by the seasonal rain on Thursday 17 January, 2013, Jakarta was left paralysed with at least 20,000 being evacuated.
The floods have inundated hundreds of houses and farmland, especially in areas likes West Nusa Tenggara, Aceh Besar and the East Java. The worse affected area was reported to be Kampung Pulo.
In Jakarta, floods measured up to 2 metres are paralysing the city and at least four deaths are reported. The waters also made its way into the presidential palace where President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was waiting to welcome the arrival of the Argentina’s President Christina Kirchner.
The seasonal monsoon rain hits Jakarta regularly but only several places are prone to floods. However, the violent rain storm this time has led to a widespread flood affecting the entire country.
According to the weather forecast, they are expecting 50 per cent more water to flow into Jakarta as compare to the amount of rain measured last year over the same period.
The local National Disaster Mitigation Agency is now providing shelter, food, blankets and medical aid to the affected areas.
