Gosses Bluff, Australia: Located in the Northern Territory, this impact crater was formed 142 million years ago by what is assumed to be the impact of a comet or asteroid falling at a speed of 40km/sec. The energy released when the object fell was equivalent to 22,000 megatons of dynamite, with the resulting blast forming an area of 24 km with a depth of 5,000 metres.
