In 2005, Taizo Sugimura, became the youngest member in Japan's lower house of the Parliament. At that time, he had come into Parliament as part of then-Japanese PM Junichiro Koizumi's group of candidates chosen to defeat party members opposed to Koizumi's reforms.

He first came to public attention when he commented on the perks and high pay offered, saying he was finally able to own his dream car, a BMW. Sugimura was later forced to apologize for his comments, having been reprimanded by senior LDP members as being "irresponsible".

He failed to get re-elected in Japan's 2009 elections, and contested in the upper house as candidate for a new party, The Sunrise Party Of Japan.
