The mid-autumn festival is celebrated through different activities, ranging from mooncake eating to barbecues and even lantern displays and rituals by Chinese throughout the world. However, celebrations differ with every community.
In Hong Kong, the Fire Dragon Dance is the highlight and climax of the celebration, a tradition which dates back to as long as the late 1800s. The dance crew usually parades down the streets of Hong Kong, allowing people to place their incense sticks on the dragon which is said to bring good health. As the procession takes place at night, the glittering lights from the dragon and lighted incense joss sticks transform the entire island into a sea of lights.
