A roundup of key messages raised by PAP, RP, SDA and WP as they meet in a final by-election face-off today (Jan 26) to contest for Punggol East Single Member Constituency
People’s Action Party: Koh Poh Koon, 40, Colorectal Surgeon
1. Call for voters not to vote tactically but according to what they believe in
2. To deliver what PAP had promised on its general election i.e. national concerns like housing, transport, education, unemployment as well as expand health screening and preventive care programmes for the elderly
3. PAP had recently unveiled a new marriage and parenthood policy to ease child-raising cost and help young married couples with children get HDB flats faster
Dr Koh said, "As your voice in Parliament, I will speak on issues that matter to you. I will push for more help, for our fellow citizens in need, the poor, the vulnerable and especially the elderly who have done so much for our society to make it what it is today.
"I will bring up practical issues that families face, on education, on childcare, on the cost of living. I will do all I can to push for policies to help more individuals and families to stand on their own two feet. I want to see more opportunities for all to succeed, the same opportunities given to me."
If elected, Dr Koh plans to set up a wellness centre for seniors within a soon-to-be-built Community Centre in Punggol East.
