Orissa, India

Claiming that she had delivered a boy, a new mother in India left a hospital refusing to accept the baby that the nurses had handed her, Zee News reported.
She alleged that her ‘son’ was swapped with the daughter of another woman with the same surname. Both women gave birth to their babies at around the same time in the same labour room of SCB Medical College Hospital on Mar 30. Coincidentally, their husbands also had similar first names.
The baby girl was left abandoned in the hospital as a result, until four and a half months later when DNA tests confirmed that the first woman was not the mother of the boy as she had claimed.
The set of parents, who had earlier submitted a petition to the Orissa high court, then accepted the child after the court ruled that their allegation against the hospital authorities are false, putting an end to the baby swapping controversy.
