British graffiti artist Banksy takes over New York
British guerrilla graffiti artist Banksy made headlines around the world this month, as he posted on his website about his latest public stunt – tourists and art-lovers grabbed themselves a bargain, as a pop-up stall in Central Park sold his original paintings for as little as $60 dollars, instead of the usual price tag of over $100,000. This one-off stall was manned by a grey-haired man and not Banksy himself, and according to his website the total taking of the day was as little as $420.
‘Better Out Than In’ is the name of this so-called New York project. It is a reference to a quote by impressionist Paul Cezanne: “All pictures painted inside in the studio will never be as good as the things done outside.” Banksy has put up one artwork a day in October in various parts of New York, and people had the opportunity to go on a street art tour.
