Jemaah Islamiah, the masterminds behind the attack

The militant Islamic extremist organization Jemaah Islamiah, led by radical cleric Abu Bakar Bashir, was found to be behind the Bali bombings. International terrorist network Al Qaeda also claimed responsibility for the attack in a voice recording by its leader Osama bin Laden, then still at large after the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan.
