Doraemon celebrated a hundred years before its birth on September 3. The robotic cat, originally from a Japanese manga series, is a well-known name in numerous countries including South Korea, Taiwan, China, Hong Kong and its native Japan.

Doraemon: Where it all began
On a fine day in 1970, creator Fujiko Fujio was conceptualising a manga character when a cat appeared in his house. Even though his deadline for the manga loomed, he played with the cat. His eureka moment came when he accidentally kicked his daughter’s roly-poly toy which he was pacing around the room. He decided to combine the cat and the roly-poly toy to give rise to Doraemon.
