With sex-for-contracts trials back in court and plans on population and finance set to be heard, 2013 promises to be a year filled with even more contentious claims and fiery news agendas than the year before.

On the heels of such court hearings and policy changes also comes much-awaited news: the opening of the first phase of the Downtown Line as well as the possible Punggol East by-election. Here is a look at some of the key events you should look out for in the year 2013.
